A Letter from the Director

Welcome to Magdalen's 2020 MUN conference in the city of dreaming spires.

We are delighted to be welcoming you to this exciting conference and we hope that this website will be useful in planning your time with us in Oxford. Whether you are a seasoned delegation or new to MUN, we feel confident that your students will have a stimulating, thought-provoking and entertaining weekend with us.

In the 10 years that Magdalen College School has had an MUN club we have seen a lot of spirited debates and a great many of our pupils have been inspired by their experience. It has had an energizing effect upon those studying a wide range of Humanities subjects, and has enhanced our pupils. understanding of the exciting and rapidly-changing real world around them.

We hope that your students will enjoy MUN at MCS as much as we do. We have aimed to answer the most important questions in these pages, but if after reading them you still have any queries, please get in touch with us by emailing mun@mcsoxford.org. Location

Magdalen College School is located in central Oxford on Cowley Place, near to the Plain Roundabout. It is easily accessible by car and bus. There is limited parking on the school grounds but pay & display parking is available nearby on St Clement's Street. The conference will be spread around the site with one room for each committee, and the large main hall will be used for general assemblies.


Conference Fees

The fee is £25 per delegate. There is no fee for teachers. This fee will be invoiced to you on or after 14th January 2020 for payment by BACS transfer.

The fee covers attendance, lunch on Saturday and Sunday and a sandwich supper on the Friday night. It does not cover accommodation, which must be booked by each delegation independently (see Accommodation); If the fee is likely to prevent any of your students from attending, please use the Fees question on the sign-up form to let us know; we may be able to provide financial support in a few cases.

Delegations

Each delegation will comprise 5 people (for non-Security Council countries) OR 6 people (for permanent members of the Security Council). If you have individual delegates who are not part of a 5 or 6 person delegation they may be able to represent non-permanent members of the Security Council who do not have a place on the main committees or, alternatively, work with participants from MCS or other schools to form a combined delegation.
