Magdalen College School
Model United Nations Conference 2020

Saturday 29th February - 1st March 2020

What is MUN?

Model United Nations (MUN) is a student-led simulation of the real United Nations. It is an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the key international issues of the day often within a lively and focused environment.

Each school taking part represents a different country, and takes its place in a series of debates, defending its interests and putting forward its point of view in open forum. It takes in everything from military threats to environmental dangers and provides a chance to explore the political, economic and cultural realities of the international community.

Pupils work together under the leadership of their peers and so develop valuable skills in teamwork and debating. By adopting the positions of different countries, often those at odds with one another, they are compelled to develop strategies for solving problems and building consensus. They also learn to use complex diplomatic and political language and procedures.

What is the annual MCS Conference?

An annual MUN conference is hosted by Magdalen College School in central Oxford, and is a great chance for pupils to meet new friends and discuss interesting agenda. While MUN is directed by school teachers, much of the organisation and running of the conference is led by pupils, which creates a great learning experience for those involved, and a more pupil-oriented atmosphere.
